CFRs are not deployed to every single incident in their area. Whether an incident is suitable for a CFR is determined by the Ambulance Control Centre, the CFR does not make that decision.
Whilst the ambulance service may broaden or change the nature of incidents CFRs are sent to, currently CFRs are not sent to the following:
- Emergency calls where the patient is a child
- Emergency obstetric or maternity calls, someone in labour etc.
- Road Traffic Accidents or collisions
- Incidents involving drugs* or alcohol
- Incidents involving weapons or a fight
- Incidents involving self-harm or suicide
*where a CFR has completed necessary training they may carry Naloxone and respond to incidents of opiod overdose
